JoAnn Jacob Krantz Joins Fine & Hatfield after serving as Warrick County Prosecutor

JoAnn Jacob Krantz has joined the firm as a Senior Member concentrating her practice in the areas of Family Law, Criminal Defense Law, and Family Law Mediation.

JoAnn joins Fine & Hatfield after serving four years as the Warrick County Prosecuting Attorney, six years as the Warrick County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and twenty-six years in the private practice of law in Boonville, Indiana. Ms. Krantz will also serve on the Executive Committee and the Chair-Elect of the Warrick County Communities That Care Coalition, Vice Chair of the Advisory Board of the Women’s Fund of Warrick County and as the appointee of the Indiana Supreme Court Supreme as the Character and Fitness Committee Member for Warrick County.

Andrew E. Skinner Joins Fine & Hatfield

Andrew E. Skinner of Newburgh, Indiana, has joined the firm as an Associate Attorney concentrating his practice in the areas of Litigation, Estate Planning, Family Law, and Mediation. Andrew also is involved in municipal law and also represents families and children in the area of Special Education Law.

Andrew comes to Fine & Hatfield after having taught five years in the Warrick County School Corporation at Chandler Elementary School and Castle South Middle School. Andrew is a Castle High School graduate and received his undergraduate diploma from University of Southern Indiana with honors. Andrew attended IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, graduating magna cum laude and earning distinction for his community service involvement.

Andrew and his family are lifelong residents of Newburgh, and they attend First Christian Church of Newburgh where Andrew has served as a Deacon and in various other capacities.

Beau Dial Selected to Leadership Development Academy

Beau Dial was one of twenty-five Indiana attorneys selected for being an accomplished legal practitioner admitted to practice for less than 15 years. The Academy is a statewide leadership program established to empower and develop lawyers to be informed, committed and involved so that they may fill significant leadership roles in local and state bar associations, local communities and organizations and to serve as role models in matters of ethics and professionalism.

Affordable Care Act Provides Direction on Notices Employers Must Provide to their Employees

Currently the Affordable Care Act (ACA) provides the first open enrollment period for the yet-to-be-launched stated health insurance exchanges will begin October 1, 2013. By January 1, 2014, virtually every individual American citizen is required under the ACA to have health insurance coverage or they will be subject to a “penalty” or tax. That tax will be collected on the individual’s income tax return in 2014 if they do not have health insurance.

Employers subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act will be required to provide information to their employees about these health insurance exchanges, and for the first time the Department of Labor has issued guidance on what those notices will need to say.
